Happy Easter, everyone. I hope the Easter Bunny is kind to you this year and brings you the good chocolate. I just finished helping my sisters fill baskets and hide eggs. While I don't have children of my own, I make up for it by being an excellent uncle. I'm in D.C. this weekend with my family, who have all threatened to steal Sammy from me if I leave her unattended. She's enjoying the warm weather and the chance to run around in a real yard. She's been sleeping with the boys, which is going to cause some broken hearts when we leave tomorrow evening. I promised them that they could visit over summer break.

I've been hearing a lot about the retreat. This will be my first year attending and I'm not sure whether I should be excited or afraid. Knowing the sort of people we work with, I'm going to lean toward 'afraid'. I heard something about cabins and group activities. This could end badly, but I'm hoping for the best.

Meet Samantha. I'll admit that I've never been attracted to blondes, but when my neighbor told me that he had to give her away or take her to a shelter.. how could I say no? I haven't had a dog in a very long time, but we're getting along pretty well. She doesn't like to sleep on the bed or hop on the furniture. She's four years old, so she's already gone through the rigmarole of housebreaking and such. Samantha likes to be called Sammy and to be scratched under her chin. She likes squirrels and her frog squeaky toy. I'm afraid I might become one of those obnoxious dog people. At least I don't have a toy breed.

I've never been a big fan of the Olympics, but I've tried to watch a little here and there. The freestyle skiing and snowboarding are my favorite events. Honestly, they're my favorites because I always expect someone to wipe out. The women's snowboarding this year didn't fail to provide a few chuckles. I shouldn't laugh too hard, though. I've never been able to ski or snowboard very well. That's never really stopped me from mocking the professionals when they screw up, though. I hope that doesn't make me a horrible person.

I'm trying to come up with something interesting or fun to do over the weekend. Do any of you have plans? Would anyone like to make a suggestion? I'm open to most anything.

I'm watching the SAG awards and I've never heard of most of these television shows and movies. I started a running list of things that looked enjoyable, but I had to stop after a half hour. I think I'll resign myself to the fact that I'm of a certain age and I'd rather watch re-runs in syndication, as well as my favorite films on DVD, than try to catch up on everything popular. For instance, I didn't realize ER was off the air. I feel out of the loop.

There hasn't been anything particularly interesting or exciting going on in my life, unless you count work. My work is always exciting and interesting, yeah right. I've been re-reading the Harry Potter series with one of my younger nephews, mostly over the telephone. It has been very interesting. I forgot a lot of the plot, as it's been blurred in with the movies, so it's nice to revisit it. Unfortunately, now I want to watch the films again, too.

How has everyone weekend gone so far? Is there anything fun to report? Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Do you have a valentine? How do you usually celebrate the holiday? I personally enjoy going out. You meet a lot of fascinating and strange people in bars on Valentine's Day.

Christmas in New York City. Can you top that? The snow, the ice skating at Rockefeller, the crazy soccer mothers who will literally cut you on Christmas Eve for the last quart of egg nog at the corner bodega. There's nothing like it. I love Christmas. I love Christmas so much, in fact, that I volunteered to play Santa Claus at a community center in Brooklyn. I know what you're thinking. "But, Charles, you're black." Yes, indeed, I am. That doesn't mean I can't play Santa Claus. If they can make chocolate Santa-shaped treats, why can't I be Santa Claus? I was in a cab the other day that had a mistletoe air freshener hanging in the back. The faint smell of peppermint and stale cigarettes will always remind me of New York at Christmas.

So, we're doing this Secret Santa project, huh? That looks like it's going to be fun. I'll be doing some research on my recipient soon. I don't know them but in passing, so I'll have to rely on my kind, intelligent co-workers to help me out. Are you up to the task? I hope you are.

What reminds you of Christmas?

My favorite holiday is coming up soon. Thanksgiving is always a good excuse to coax my nephews into doing things that would normally have them grounded. It's also a good excuse to over eat and watch ridiculous things on the television while my mother and sisters plot out the Christmas festivities and their Black Friday plan. My Black Friday plan? To sit in my mother's living room in Arlington with my five nephews and two brothers-in-law, all in our pajamas and boxer shorts, watching cartoons. Let the women kill themselves for their discounts. I'd rather pay full price for something online and keep all my body parts.

I'm having a root canal done at 3pm. I've been very good to my teeth in the past, and vice versa, so this is a little disturbing. I've never had one done before. I have heard many, many horror stories. If I make it out alive, I'll let you know.

My first month has been interesting. It has been a challenge trying to adjust to the new environment. I have to admit that I read the journals a few times a week. I haven't commented yet as I don't feel as if I know any of you well enough to butt in. I hope that changes soon.

I loved Halloween as a child. My sisters and I usuaLly coordinated our costumes. I remember going as characters from the Wiz one year. I don't know what I'll be doing this year, but whatever I'm doing I know I'll be giving my sisters a call.

What has been your favorite Halloween costume in the past?

Hello new co-workers. My name is Charles Bevington and I'm the new Senior Copy Editor. I know what you're thinking, "Copy editing? That's the Shredded Wheat of magazine publication!". I'll admit that it isn't as exciting as writing a column or taking photographs, but it can be very interesting and rewarding work.

I grew up in the D.C. area, but I've been living and working in New York for nearly twenty years now. It's amazing how time flies. One day you're fresh out of college with the world at your feet. The next you're in your forties and can barely recognize anything in popular culture anymore. However, I'm not a geezer. I own an iPhone and I actually know how to use it.

I'm not too familiar with blogging, unfortunately, but I'm looking forward to it. Especially now that I know only my colleagues will have access to it. So, I beg you, tell me who you are and what it is that you do for Spent.
